Love it or List it

MY SERMON NOTES

Sunday, October 11th, 2020

Series: The Schisms of Isms  Title: Love it or List it

Speaker: Pastor Ben Fresch

Luke 12:15 | 15 And He said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

What you __________ is not who you ________.

What you have is not _______________ of God’s ________ in your life.

Matthew 19:21-22 | 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

1 Timothy 6:17-18 | 17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Materialism _________ us from the greater _____ of God in our lives.

God is ______________!

1 John 2:15-17 | 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

________________ is the longing for more __________.

_______________ is the demand for your desires.

Where materialism _____________,

consumerism ______________ the call of God.

The _____________ of God is more important than our _____________.

Matthew 19:23-26 | 23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

  1. ____________ THE __________

Desire God’s ____________, not more _____________.

Philippians 4:13 | 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:11-13 | 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

God hasn’t called us to store up ________________ on earth,

He’s called us to store up ________________ in Heaven.

  1. __________ GENEROUSLY

  1. SERVE _________________

God calls us to be ________________, not _________________.
